🎙️Podcast & App Recommendation: Black Wall Street

The Dreams of Black Wall Street Podcast comes highly recommended by EQ member Kingsley. "The social and historical context that led to the establishment of Black Wall Street, its thriving success and its ultimate destruction are complex and painful. Nia Clark chronicles the events before, during and after the burning to the ground of the Tulsa district in 1921." Visit the website here.
There's also an app for that - The Black Wall Street App, co-created by actor Hill Harper and crypto entrepreneur Najah Roberts, launched this summer. This name of the app is a tribute to the Tulsa neighborhood that was destroyed by fire 100 years ago. It's the first Black-owned crypto wallet and designed to make crypto accessible to the Black and Latino communities. 🧠  Mental Health App Recommendation: Ayana

Nicole recommended an interesting read about the app Ayana for intersectional communities. "The U.S. has around 100,000 therapists, 86% are white, 5% Asian, 5% Hispanic, and 4% black. This is a far cry from diverse representation based on the U.S. population being 62% white and 38% racial and ethnic minority, according to the American Psychological Association."

Ayana is focusing on connecting marginalized communities, people of color, LGBTQ, and disabled individuals with licensed therapists similar to themselves. Learn more

🏾 What is your #1 tip when networking with people?

"Detach yourself from the outcome and just connect." - Shana
"Make networking opportunities count - never treat it like speed dating. You've all seen those people working a room like a crazy person, racking up contacts and the ones who discard you as no value. Use your personality and develop natural or topical conversation - the rest will follow." - Raymond

"If you meet one key person at a networking event, that is a win." - Jennifer
"Being curious and thinking 'who can I connect this person with?' rather than 'what can they do for me?'. Also slow down and enjoy getting to know the person's zone of genius." - Kingsley
